This skill helps AI agents decide when to use HTML instead of Markdown, create high-quality standalone HTML files, review existing artifacts for issues, and improve them. It enforces best practices like inline CSS, no frameworks, and accessibility.
HTML Artifact Best Practices is an Agent Skill that operationalizes the principle that Markdown is the source of truth while HTML is the human review surface. It provides a structured approach for AI agents to judge whether HTML adds value over Markdown, create standalone single-file HTML artifacts with inline CSS and vanilla JS, review existing artifacts against an 11-dimension quality checklist, and improve information architecture, interaction quality, and remove waste. The skill includes 10 anti-patterns to catch common failures and judgment rules to prevent HTML overuse. It is inspired by the May 2026 article 'The Unreasonable Effectiveness of HTML' by Thariq Shihipar and endorsed by Andrej Karpathy and Simon Willison. The skill is designed for use with Claude Code and the Agent Skills CLI, and it integrates with AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files.
